Banyuls, Domaine Pietri-Geraud
As featured in Rick Stein's 'Secret France'; one of the world's great pudding wines/vin doux naturels. Ultra ripe Grenache and Carignan aged for years in old oak using the 'solera' method more common with sherry, to give complex, walnut, cocoa, cedar, tobacco and dried fruit flavours. Stunningly delicious digestif - absolutely THE best wine to drink with chocolate.
Banyuls is the appellation for France’s finest and certainly most complex 'vin doux naturels' made from vertiginous terraced vineyards above the Mediterranean at the southern limit of Roussillon, and indeed mainland France.
