High altitude Ribera del Duero with characteristically potent fruit, good acidity and a pleasing silkiness. Made in a ‘semi-crianza’ style (6-8 months in barriques) it’s less earthy than many examples, showing ripe damson characters. Medium/full bodied but refined without being too much of a blockbuster. 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo).
Dominio Basconcillos has 42 hectares of vineyards and has been organic since 2004.
Ribera del Duero ranks alongside nearby Rioja as the place to find impressive and complex Tempranillo-based wines. Founded in 2000 in the north of the region, Basconcillos is one of its highest vineyards with vines growing at around 1000 metres. The cooler air helps create elegant and expressive red wines which also deliver the characteristic depth of flavour that is fast raising Ribera’s profile.
